The Certificate of Conformity or COC is a statement made by the manufacturer giving conformity to the European Union Type Approval. With this statement, the manufacturer states that it fulfils all the necessary requirements in terms of regulations, in order for the vehicle to travel within the European Union safely. Normally the document is issued by the manufacturer or its legal representative.

The Certificate of Conformity includes a large amount of vehicle technical data, including the vehicle identification number or VIN number, which is unique to each vehicle.

In accordance with Articles 18 and 26 of Directive 2007/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of September 5^th 2007 establishing a framework for the approval of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles, a Member State may register vehicles only if they are accompanied by a certificate of conformity.

CAN I ASK FOR A COC OF AN AMERICAN CAR?

No, American vehicles do not comply with European directives, therefore COCs cannot be obtained. This also applies for Asian vehicles or vehicles from other continents.
